Usually something went wrong with the resolution.

Try issue
Code:
--# xorgsetup
or
Code:
--# Xorg -configure
usually you are give a working screen to correct some lines in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Backtrack was created For computer SECURITY EXPERTS , for use BY computer SECURITY EXPERTS

if you can not install a "video driver" on your own , then there is likely NOTHING in BT5 that you can use

this tool is for use BY EXPERTS in the computer security field

did you look through the BT tutorials on there web site

Mind you they are FOR the old bt4 and YOU HAVE to port them for use in 5

that is test #1
if you pass it then
you might be able to use BT

I think that trying more user friendly distro's may be the way to learn linux. Backtrack is not a good one to learn on. We are more than willing to help you with some other distro.

Backtrack is a distro based on Ubuntu and Debian distro's, Backtrack is a security distro and it has no relation with EXPERTISM ,it's just featred by its tools nothing else, and when you know working with Ubuntu, you can work with kali even if you are not familiar with backtrack..
Any way I resolved my problem alone , and I knew how to install drivers and kernel mods and I did a LPIC certification and I got it with a good score, just one thing I like to tell you that you must help newbies and dont say to them that " you must be an expert to do something on Linux" because an expert was a newbie in the past and this forum is done to help others even if they are new in this science

good luck so.

wow !!!!

it has been 3 years

Backtrack5 rc3
is unsupported ( based on ubuntu10 )
-- do not use

if you try to "dist upgrade " bt5rc3 to ubuntu12.04 you will kill the "extra" tools that made backtrack what it is

-- use the current OS that Offensive Security uses

now
Operating systems have a "target user"

Ubuntu and mint tend to be targeted at new(er) users
Debian stable at servers and workstations / Office and there users
RHEL --same as debian
Slackware - same as debain and people that want Slack's unique system
LFS - same as slack
Fedora - the user that LIKES to tinker and fix things in VERY VERY new software

Kali - the target user is network security users and network experts and pen testers ( add in 4chan)

even the kali developers tell you NOT to use kali if you are new to linux or want a general purpose Operating system

would you RECOMMEND installing Arch or LFS or Gentoo to a "never used linux "person ?
would you put Fedora 22 on your Grandmothers computer ( replacing XP or winME or win98 ) ?
