installing as root

Ive gone and installed X as root.
It took ages and I dont really want to have to do it again.

Will this cause problems in the future? Will it open a security hole in the system? What are the consequences?

Everyone says how using root is not required because you can do serious harm to your system if you mess up. I get that, but if an install was done as root (like I have done) and everything went OK is the risk now over or is it there forever, or at least for as long as im using X?

I would not expect future problems or security issues simply because you installed X as root. As long as you don't routinely log in as root, the risk is over. It is OK to log on as root, install something, then log off and go back to being a regular user.
