Installing additional DE - will it cause any problems?

Hi everybody!
I am running Mint 9 with Gnome. And I wanna try some new desktop like Openbox/KDE/Xfce... If I install it on my Mint from repositories and load up, can it cause any issues with my system? Will it change anything in configuration? Etc...

Thanks!

I have maybe close to 10 different DEs and WMs installed. The only thing that might be considered an issue is that the various environments are not consistent about which apps to include in the menus. There's never an issue with any of them working.

Well, it can, but it shouldn't. If, for example, you try to have kde3 and kde4 installed simultaneously (kde3, slightly dull, stable; kde4, not like kde3) you can run into the problem that some things share the same name. Some distros do the work to put kde4 settings/set up into its own directory, some don't, presumably believing that this will never happen.

I don't know of this happening with anything other than kde3/4.

What do you mean?

'wanna' is not English ;)

But what do I know? I dropped English as a subject at highschool at the first opportunity. My God, I did hate that language.

For your information, I know that "wanna" is not English but an American English. And I do love American English very much! But the subject is not about languages, it's about installing GNU/Linux DEs, isn't it? :)
