Question Installing new hardware.

I've google'd and searched these forums for 4 days now! God knows I've tried my best to sort it out by myself!

Config as follows:
RH 9
kernel 2.4.20-8
source code and compiler installed

I have a USB ISDN TA connected. At startup, the TA is identified and a driver is registered for the adapter.

dmesg output is as follows:
hiax_st5481: ST5481 USB ISDN driver v0.1.0
usb.c: registered new driver st5481_usb
st541: found adapter VendorId 0483, ProductId 4810, LEDs 2
st5481_setup_usb:
HiSax: Card 1 Protocol EDSS1 Id=st5481_usb0 (0)
HiSax: DSS1 Rev. 1.1.4.1
HiSax: 2 channels added

modules.conf output is as follows:
alias eth0 3c59x
alias sound-slot-0 es1371
alias usb-controller usb-hci

OK, this tells me that the adapter has been detected, right?
I've also done my homework to find out if the adapter is supported under Linux. It is. ( qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdev.php?id=1548 )

My question is: what do I have to do to make it work?
I've been all over the web! isnd4linux; linux-usb.org, linux howtos. Name it and I've probably been there!
All I need is a howto that says: ok, linux rh recognises your adapter. Fine. Now goto lsusb and do this > then goto modules.conf and do that > then run this etc. etc.
Please point me in a direction, even if it's a document on the web somewhere.

I'm so close, I just need to be pointed in the right direction.

Maybe I should rephrase the question.

How do you install a new module?

OK, I've made peace with the fact that no-one on this board knows how to configure an ISDN TA to work with Linux.

In my ongoing effort to get it working, my next question is:

When I run ipppd, a message comes up:
Sorry - this system lacks PPP Kernel support
My current kernel is 2.4.20-8.

Anyone?
