Installing a second harddrive
I have Red Hat 7.1 installed and would like to add a second harddrive to the system. When I physically install the harddrive and start the computer up, the OS detects a new device has been added. But I don’t know how to create partitions or how to mount them.
Thanks for any help! |
You can use disk druid during installation or fdisk works afterwards. if you want to. You can find more out about these products here . There is also lots of stuff to read if you search Google.com. I am not comfortable with these linux offerings, so I use V-Com's System Commander to partition and format my HD's Learn more about SC here
. Another possibility is Partition Magic. I have not used this product, however, as System Commander has worked well for me. If you really want to use Disk Druid or Fdisk, you should REALLY read everything you can before starting and for sure, BACKUP AND DO A TEST RESTORE OF YOUR DATA. |
If u have a dos bootable floppy.
boot ur machine from the floppy disk. and issue fdisk command. there ))change ur hard drive to the newly attached hard drive. then u can add dos extended partition and within that logical partitions. to use it in linux u have to format it.and make a file system using mkfs. issue the command sfdisk and u can get info abt ur hard disk(login as root). |
