I have SuSE Linux 8.1 (Personal edition). I also have a Plustek OpticPro 9636P parallel port scanner. The OS does not recognize it, however. I attempted to find drivers, which lead me to
http://www.gjaeger.de/scanner/plustek.html So, I downloaded the module, and attempted to install it. No luck, however. I read the Instructions for Newbies, following it, and got stuck on the instructions for providing a link to the kernel sources. I can't find the kernel sources in this operating system (/usr/src). So, what should I do? According to the SANE page, it is possible for Linux to recognize this scanner, but so far it seems impossible for me to get Linux to recognize this scanner.
PS SuSE 8.1 has SANE 1.0.8 on it, which is installed on my computer.
PPS I may not have the kernel sources installed. I attempted to search YaST2 for the kernel source packages, but was unable to find them for installation. Any help with this would also be appreciated. Thanks.
PPPS I am new to this. I am trying to leave the dark side (aka Windows) and align myself with goodness (aka Linux). However, I'm having more problems then I anticipated.
