Installing a new software in Linux
 
:confused: I am Just a beginer in Linux Universe...:confused:
I know only to work what is in My SUSE desktop.... I need to in stall some softwares that can be added or altered later.... please explain me how to install a software eg: XMMS media player....:scratch: Please i dont know please say to meeeeee......

The first and best way to install SW is with the package manager. Somewhere in the menus, there is something like "install Sw" or " install applications"---or maybe something with "packages".

If the SW is not avail thru you package manager, then search on Google for an .rpm package. I'm pretty sure that SUSE uses this.

More difficult methods include compiling from source, but you will not have to do this very often.

SuSE uses YaST< and I do beleive you can connect to their packages pools and update and whatnot.. if you you are looking thorough isn't there, you can find it and install it with yast, or the rpm command.
