Insert the device, then run the
lsusb command to see whether it is listed. If lsusb doesn't show it, try the
dmesg command (dmesg returns much more information, so you may have to do a bit of scrolling through the output).
Then report your findings back here.
Be sure to enclose them in "Code" tags (Code tags become available when you click "Go Advanced" at the bottom of the compose post window). That will make them more readable.
