Talking Installin' Nvidia drivers in RH9, i'm close...

Howdy

I've been tryin to install the latest Nvidia driver (4496) for the last few days and i think i've done it correctly now, with help from the folks at the nvnews forums.

But i still have a problem, i'm not gettin the nvidia splash screen. I have a feelin it's something simple i'm missing. Here's some info on my system, some of it not needed, but ya never know

ECS K7S5A
AthlonXP 2100
Visiontek GF4 Ti4600
TB Santa Cruz
WinFast 2000 XP Tuner card
Red Hat 9, completely updated

My post at Nvnews explains where i'm at I have logs attached there as well. nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19371

nvidia is loaded as the driver and any other edits that were needed are done to the XF86Config as well, like commenting out dri and GLcore. As mentioned, the driver installed, with no errors upon reboot.

Thanks for any help

Interesting.

XF86config looks fine.

I think that the nvidia driver will show up either as a process or as a module. Have you checked lsmod or ps -A to see if the driver is loaded correctly?

are you getting into the gui? if so, i would guess that the drivers are working.

what happens when you put this in your XF86Config-4 file in the Section "Device" where you defined the Driver as "nvidia"?

Option "NoLogo" "false"

well if you're able to get the resolution you want and are getting into the gui, then i myself wouldn't worry about the nvidia logo. but if you want to see if everything is really up and running, try running tux racer. if it plays like poo or fscks at all (like freezes X, etc) , then there maybe some configuration you need to do.
