Installed yesterday need help
 

Hey this is my first post. Whenever I try to login to a ftp, or switch username I can type my login, but not my password. Even though I press the keys nothing happens. This seems like a really simple thing, but I cant figure it out. If you could help me out I would be thankful. I really like Linux so far, but it takes some getting used to.

just type in the password and press enter. It doesn't put the ****'s when you type in the keys.

Ok I got another question. Whenever I try to login as root I type Login then I put root and then the password. It then says login incorrect. I know that the password is right so what am I doing wrong?:D I have a fealing that it is something really simple, but I guess this is how you learn.

does this happen when you first start up, or when you try to log in after being another user?

if you are already another user, type "su root"

If you can't log in after boot-up, you probably have the password wrong. Was the caps lock on when you set the password? is it on now? you don't need to type "logon" when you first boot the system
