Wim Sturkenbooms post seems to indicate the your version of Ubuntu is no longer supported. As such you should upgrade or reinstall.

Google provided the following in
http://ubuntu-tutorials.com/2008/04/...upgrade-works/
instructions on how to do the upgrade. After the upgrade you can install a graphical environment.
