Installed ubuntu 12.04 from 10.04 and now cannot access internet

I have a laptop with ubuntu 10.04 installed with a wireless connection to my windows desktop via Dlink. All was fine until I installed ubuntu 12.04 and now I no longer have internet access. I am a newbie and if you do require more info, please consider my computer illiteracy. Thank you so much!! Rosiee

It sounds like your missing the firmware for your wireless adapter. In the latest versions of Ubuntu they relocated the application to update this. Can you open up a terminal and see what the output of lspci is so we can determine the model of wireless card your using. The lspci command will list all the components on the laptops PCI bus, one of which should be your wifi card.
