Arrow Installed Salix, not showing on GRUB.

Hi again Friends.

Toshiba/Celeron/multiboot

I just installed Salix KDE. The install went well, afaIk...

Salix does not appear on the grub, and I in fact have no way of knowing if it even exists on my machine. I have not checked anything via the console. I do not know how.

All other OS's on the HDD are present on the grub, and are unaffected.

I am running Kubuntu 10.04 LTS currently.

Please teach me how to use my console to check my install and make that install visible, and operable.

Thank you.
Hare Krishna

Run grub-update from Kubuntu. (I'm assuming it is the one that handles grub).

Thank you, bon. But I don't know how to do that, even...

I pretty much need to be told exactly what to enter in console, and what to look for, and what to post here. I should know some of this by now, but I can be a lazy note-taker...

OK. Try this. Open Kubuntu and press alt+F2. It will have a dialog asking for a command. Type "konsole" It will open a terminal.

You're on the terminal. Type "sudo grub-update" and enter your password. That's it.

PS. Don't type the quote marks.

Quote:
honeybear@honeybear-craptop:~$ sudo grub-update
[sudo] password for honeybear:
sudo: grub-update: command not found
honeybear@honeybear-craptop:~$

Oh Sorry for the wrong command. I use LILO and have a bad memory, probably shouldn't have partied so much when I was a teenager.

I assume this went well? Time to reboot and find my Salix? (Salix would be the Slackware-based entry)

Also, should I start a new thread if I want help to remove "garbage" (double entries) from my grub list, or, is there a good one already running?

Anyway, that's my next task.

Yeah, Better to start a new thread for editing Grub 2 (no simple task) I abhor grub 2 to the point that I even use Grub Legacy whenever possible and if not. Then grub4dos even.

Kernel removal may be required also.

New thread. Install Grub legacy or LILO. Much better than the script-mess-fest.
