Installed NVidia driver and now network is broken

Using the excellent guides on this site, I downloaded and installed the driver for my NVidia graphics card with no problem. This involved rebuilding the kernel (that part was done by the nvidia install script).

It seems to have broken my network though. Now when I boot, I get the message "localhost network: Bringing up interface eth0: failed"

Any idea how to figure out what went wrong? I installed the driver by following the instructions in this message...

You did install the graphics package and NOT the NForce drivers, right? In other words, the filename of the latest drivers package is "NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run". If that's not the name of the file then you've got the wrong one.

Yes, that's what I installed. And the video driver is working perfectly now. It's just the network that's not working.

And the kernel source that I installed was kernel-source-2.4.22-10mdk.i586.rpm

Could you post the output of lspci -v as root? Also, the output of lsmod and ifconfig?

Do you have a DHCP server or are all you IPs static?

Could you do an ifconfig eth0 down and then an ifconfig eth0 up. See if you get any errors. You have the correct module loaded (sis900) so it should work.

Rebooting my router fixed it. Doh!

Funny the other PC hooked into that router didn't have a problem. Also funny that it was working just before installing the nvidia driver.

Works now though , thanks for the help
