Installed new version over home folder! can I recover?

I installed a new version of lubuntu and my home folder has gone. I know it was a stupid mistake but is there a way to get it back?

very extremely unlikely to the point where it's not worth pursuing at all. Just learn for next time! Note that you don't need to replace a dedicated /home partition when installing new distros, you can generally just define it as an existing filesystem and get right back to where you where very quickly.

Thanks for the reply. Well, everything happens for a good reason. Just not seeing the good side yet.

The good side is that you learned to be extremely careful when doing system critical tasks and that you better should have a backup.
