installed mint 10, cannot connect to wireless or wired internet connection
Hi, I am a newbie to Linux. I installed mint 10 on top of my Windows XP on a Dell Latitude D630. The installation was successful.
I do understand that I may have to configure the linux OS to work with the hardware in the system. I started by opening the Firefox browser and it would not connect to the net (I'm typing this on another machine). When I plug in the ethernet, the network manager recognises it as 'Etho0'. The ethernet icon at the bottom when clicked shows the connection state as unavailable for WLAN. I have a dell 1390 WLAN minicard. I clicked on 'Manage connections', selected the Wireless tab and tried to add a new connection but it would not scan. I am not sure if I need to install the driver first and then attempt to manage connections. Help! (Please do provide step by step instructions if possible as I am clueless about how to proceed, but I am willing to learn). Thanks, :) |
Can you post the output of lspci, ifconfig, and iwconfig?

ubuntu 10.10
I ended installing Ubuntu 10.10 instead of Linux Mint. It seemed to recognize all of my hardware devices automatically.

Oh ok, that works then. Glad to hear you got it up and running. Mark your thread as solved if you can, thanks!
