Installed manjaro alongside win 10, grub not seeing win 10

I don't mind formatting the c drive, reinstalling windows, then manjaro but I must be missing something. Distros such as Ubuntu give the option "install alongside windows" on the live USB graphical installers. On the manjaro one it says I need a / partition(ext4) and /boot/efi(fat I assume, that's all it seems to work with).

Linux reboots and grub just has manjaro on the list, I can still get into Windows by putting "windows boot manager" first on the boot list.

What am I missing?

Any help greatly appreciated

dave`2005,

First, for dual-booting you need to create space within W10/8.1 for your Manjaro installation.

Dual boot:

Install Manjaro:

An alternative is to install VirtualBox in W10 and then install Manjaro in VB:

I do make space in Windows 10, defragment a few times then shrink the volume.

What does the Ubuntu "install alongside windows" option add/change to the partitions to make windows 10 appear in grub with it?

When manjaro asks for /boot/efi does it mean the one already made by windows?

If you have shrunk your windows partition and created unallocated space, you should be able to install. If your windows 10 was pre-installed it is almost certainly using UEFI. If windows is using UEFI, then your Linux system will need to be installed UEFI. There is generall only one EFI partition and you would install the manjaro efi boot files to that same partition. The link below is to the Ubuntu documentation but the first part of the page gives some general principles on dual booting Linux/windows.

Thanks for the help guys,

I went into the bios and changed "Legacy and UEFI" to "OPROM Only"

reinstalled windows, shrunk the drive (C), booted a manjaro live dvd, this time the graphical installer for manjaro didnt ask for a /efi/boot just /

Manjaro and windows are now listed on grub

Cheers
