Installed Grub/lilo to A:, cannot boot into linux.

ok i installed SuSE 9.1 on my dually because i liked it on my test rig. Seemed to offre more than mandrake....So like i get to the part of creating the bootloader, and i prefer to do it on floppy, because ive had TERRIBLE problems with my MBR.

Ive done this before with Mandrake and Debian. But this time, it loads Grub/Lilo (ive tried both) and when i select linux....it just does nothing...it boots into windows ok, but linux is no go. Any ideas guys?

what is the error do you get kernel panic cant find root such and such is not a valid root option

any of that at all or what

could be that your computer is about to burst into a huge hulk with big blue electric eyes and come runing after you down the road. LOL only joking

yea what error do you get?

MadSkillzMan 07-21-2004 02:07 AM

NONE.

Also for laughs i tried Knoppix. FAST, easy, detects EVERYTHING. Upon the first boot, both monitors go blank, but one goes into stand by, the other remains on. But the screen was totally blank. OK fine, reboot, says USB device will not accept new IRQ. So i unplug my one and only USB device, my IBM pc camera. Reboot. I get a TON of errors. Starts with find, then some file, and just says input/output error. After that, it looks at the hard drive, HDg, and says Lost interrupt. and just loops that infinite.

So im gonna try mandrake again hah.

i using fedora core 2 hotswap and usb stuff works fine know but had to go through murder to sort it out.

first install has some stupid modprobe configuration that just screws all usb stuff up and crashes system black screens the lot had to press e at grub screen to edit the kernell paramiters remove the rhgb quiet statement from the boot paramiter
press enter the the B key and it let me in. mouse was crawling across screen but i got to /etc/modprobe.conf
edited and added me usb and bits find these lines in
modprobe.conf.dist then i strugled again with the crawlings bliping mouse got to /boot/grub/grub.conf and removed rhgb quiet saved rebooted and hey presto it worked recompiled a 2.6.8rc kernel and started me work sorting out graphics problem took 4 hours to figure out redhat screwed up the modprobe.conf why did they do that
