Installed Fedora Core 4, mouse failure?

I just installed Fedora Core 4, and now on startup it says:
Quote:
I cannot start the X server (your graphical interface). It seems that the pointer device (your mouse) is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem?
Uh, the mouse is fine. It's plugged in, and there's a cursor that I can move around even when this error message appears. But clicking doesn't do anything. What's wrong, how do I fix this?

It's a PS/2 mouse. It worked just fine on the last distro, which was RedHat 9.

Pick 'yes' to view the X server output, then copy the message and post it here.

That will make it (alot) easier to help you out

Here's the error:

Quote:
x860OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/psaux
No such file or directory.

Mouse0: cannot open input device

Hi,

Try typing this in a terminal to check the symlinks & file permissions:
Code:
ls -l /dev/mouse
Did you try to do a:
Code:
mouseconfig
If the mouseconfig doesen't help you out, try to post the pointer section of your X config file here.

Thanks, but it's solved. I installed Slackware and it has no mouse problems. Although now I'm network problems.

Ok. I see. Changing from one problem to another

Just an advice: Get back to Fedora Core 4

It's a good distribution to start with.

I wish I could, but my CPU can't handle it. Well it can, but it goes slow enough that I can't deal with it.

Just try previous versions, i have relatively modern pc so the previous versions don't work quite well on it, i tried fc3 and fc2 on it and i had similiar problems with the mouse on fc3 (and what not on fc2) so i upgraded to fc4, higher versions work better with modern hardware (my experience with fedora core).

and i must agree with antiloaded, fedora core is the best for new linuxers.

Good luck.
