I will tackle this slightly differently.
1) you choose the best screen size based on your monitor capabilities. Nearly all LCDs will tell you what that is. CRTs that are old you may have to play with.
You need a horizontal rate of at least 73 Hz and then go for the highest vertical rate which is KiloHz.....size does matter.
2) size does matter because after choosing a larger screen size you automatically get smaller icons and fonts relative to that new size.
Then you change your icon and font sizes using your window manager or environment tools such as in KDE control centre
3) So pls research your monitor and video card resolutions and if no luck post your hardware.
