Installation Problems
 

OK, I installed a 750 gig to dual boot "Fedora 14" I believe I have the correct version, My PC is 64 bit, which I think may be the problem. The real problem is I don't understand what I'm reading. So I included pics. It is always stopping at the same point.

@EDDY1: This is totally unrelated to the OP's problem and, even worse, is taking him away from the Zero Reply List. This is considered bad manners on this forum.

@BThresher: This seems to be an hardware issue. Does your Windows run flawlessly? If so, I would assume that you have a problem with your new drive. I would recommend to test it with the diagnosis-tool from the manufacturer.

I aplogize for the mistake.

Haven't had any problems with win7 (64bit). or the drives. Could it be the formatting the operating system does to the drive when formatting? Drive test tools says clean, but was a fast test. hmmmm It was the built in Windows testing tool, not the manufacturer's.

I tried unplugging drive I, didn't help booting the Fedora.. Is there another diagnostic step I should consider? Or just assume this machine won't be compatible and move on?

I have the Fedora 14 i686, is that the correct version for my system? (intel i5) Video geforce GTX 470 there's a mem test in the boot disk that didn't see a problem in memory.

It also can be that the install-medium or the downloaded image is corrupted. I would download it again, this time with checking the md5sum, and try it again. You also can check if you can boot a different machine with your medium.
And of course, it may be that your hardware needs a special boot-option to run flawlessly, so you could do a search for Linux and your motherboards name.

Ok, That was my first assumption, bad media / download. But it boots on 4 other machines. I think you're right, I'll go looking for special considerations. The motherboard is a MSI p55-gd55 w/i5 750.

Alright more Updates. I did a search and there are people using my fedora w/ my hardware w/o a problem that my search would turn up. I tried Ubuntu, and that comes up fine. re-downloaded and burnt a new copy of Fedora, and am still having the same issues. Any Ideas?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P6_(microarchitecture) seems to indicate that an Intel i5 is x86_64 architecture:
x86-64: Atom (some) · Celeron · Pentium (Dual-Core) · Core (i3 · i5 · i7)

Since no luck with the second i686 download, you could try x86_64. If that doesn't work, you could always try 32-bit (ouch), but one of the 64-bit ones should work (unless the device enumeration code in the kernel is having problems with one of your motherboards devices...) as TobiSGD alluded to.

Such an idiot newb! I knew I needed a 64 bit edition, they offered one version so I thought that was it. Found the 64-but version, downloading it. Since google chrome, and ubuntu worked fine, I'm sure it will too. Thank you guys. Hopefully in the future I'll have more intelligent questions.

There is absolutely no reason why a 32 bit version should not run on that machine. I would be astonished if running the i686 version would be the reason for your problem.

OK, well, an update. I did download 3 of the i686, that ran on the other computers just fine. It never would boot on my system. But the 64 bit did w/o problems on the first try. :) Leaving me with normal newbie problems like how to dual boot, how to make sure I don't destroy my system while learning this new operating system, what softwares can I not part with? But those are subjects for other threads. Thank you all for your help.
