Hello Gents,
Ive recently converted to Linux, only problem is, i can't get Linux Mint to download. I go to the BIOS, boot from USB, which has the Distro, i go through the configuration, Laptop does its thing, (looks like a bunch of garble, with being a noob and all) and then finally, i end up with: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BusyBox v1.21.1 (ubuntu 1:1.21.0-1ubuntu1) built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands (initramfs) [ 37.512065] random: nonblocking pool is initialized _ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I had previously installed unbuntu on this laptop alongside Windows 7 a long time ago, but i ended up deleting it because i was having some other issues. for anyone who can help, i can send a picture of whats actually on the screen, since i cant add a photo directly from my hdd. sorry about not making this brief, but tried to explain as much as i much as i could to help you help me. Thank you. |
eth329,
Welcome to LQ. Is W7 still on your laptop? Are you trying to dual boot or just install Linux on its own? I suspect that your bootloader needs sorting out. This link may help you: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...ta/7Bootloader Boot Repair: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair Boot Repair Disk: http://sourceforge.net/p/boot-repair-cd/home/Home/ In addition, you have a slow CPU which is benchmarked at 649, so you should really try a lightweight Linux distro such as Zorin OS 9 Lite which is reviewed here: http://mylinuxexplore.blogspot.co.uk...best-lxde.html Have a look at the Linuxed table of contents to search for similar lightweight distros: http://mylinuxexplore.blogspot.co.uk...-contents.html |
Hi eth329 ,
Make sure the usb boot stick was made correctly. Try to use an utomated tool like Pendrive : http://www.pendrivelinux.com/univers...easy-as-1-2-3/ Hopefully this will solve your problem. |
Hello again. Sorry, I had some other business going on, but I had finally figured out the problem. Before, in HS, I had W7 installed alongside with Ubuntu. Didn't end up liking that distribution so I tried unistalling it. Probably left some lingering files somewhere that had interfered when I tried recently installing Linux mint over W7. But what I ended up doing was reinstalled ubuntu, wiping everything, then continued to try and Install LM over ubuntu. Sorry for wasting your guys time, but I do appreciate it as well.
