installation problem in vlc media player on rhel5


hi, i am installing vlc media player on my rhel5 but i am facing some problem. it is about libgif.so.4 package.


[root@hbs Desktop]# yum install vlc

it looks like you have have a conflicting repo installed or installed imlib2 from some OTHER repo than rpmforge ( el5.rf)

can you post the output of these two commands

--noplugins disable Yum plugins
[root@hbs ~]# rpm -qa | grep imlib2


nothing shows when i am running second command.

Pls tell me any solution.

hey...

i have faced lot of problem while installing through yum...i manually downloaded some lib rpms and vlc rpms....if u want u can it out from the following link

you cannot run from root...logged in as a normal user...then u can run it...

i am using this right now...i dont have any problem...

if you go and randomly install rpm's -- you will ,sooner than latter , kill the OS AND have many,many,many conflicts . that IS NOT RECOMMENDED .

you did not pay red hat to get updates or install software from red hat
RHEL5 is NOT FREE

you will want to use the CentOS repos
BUT
that might kill rhel5.1 ( the NOT updated version )
the current version of RHEL5 is RHEL5.4


pay red hat for updates or install CentOS 5.4
