Installation of MPlayer on SuSE 10.1 netbook

Hi,
I am absolutely new to Linux; have a HP2133 netbook with SuSE 10.1. I tried to install MPlayer on it, could not find server. Just found out 10.1 is not supported any more by Novell. What direction should I take? Install new SuSE version (no CD-ROM)? Other Linux OS? Keep looking for sources for MPlayer for 10.1?

I have heard people installed other things with PXE booting the tg3 driver but be aware you may make the system unusable like many have.

Hello,
If you want to install SuSE, you have several options, that is if you CD/DVD-ROM does not work.
1. Install through the network or Internet.
2. Utilize a flash memory with sufficient size, or a Hard Drive with a USB adapter.
You can get some help about using a USB Drive from http://en.opensuse.org/SuSE_install_from_USB_drive
There is also information on installation without a CD/DVD-ROM http://en.opensuse.org/Installation_without_CD

SuSE 10.1 worked real well for me. However, currently most of our computers run SuSE 10.3 or 11.0. I don't know what your specs are for your laptop, but my wife's laptop has a 1.2 GHz processor with 512 MB of RAM, and it runs real well with SuSE 11.0. (Compaq Evo N600c)
