Having a CD really isn't going to help. Software is designed to be installed from continually updated online sources. You may prefer to use aptitude or apt-get from a command line...

sudo apt-get install mypackage

I've zero knowledge of gdebi, but synaptic is a very capable and easy to use pakage management gui, if you don't already have it...

sudo apt-get install synaptic

job done.

If the Software Center is hard to use, you can install Synaptic and use that instead. Some people find it much easier to work with. To get it, open the Software Center and enter 'synaptic' in the search box. From there, click on Synaptic in the search results, then choose 'install'

gdebi is for installing .deb packages that you've downloaded from somewhere, such as their authors website. You'll probably never need it. To install software from Ubuntu, just use the software centre or synaptic. The CD is just what you've already got installed.
