Installation Media and Using RPM

Does anyone know how to find out which package does a particular file belongs to ? The file is not installed on the computer and same for the package.

Is it possible to use the RPM manager to query the RPM packages on the installation CDROM/DVD to find out which one of the packages has this file ? If yes could someone give me the command on how to do this please ?

Thanks

Usually you use "yum provides whatever"

Thanks for the reply but would YUM work with RedHat ? I'll take a look to see if its part of the old RedHat version of Linux that I am using.

RHEL 5 and later use yum. RHEL 4 can use yum and I suspect that earlier versions can too.

Lazlow unforunately the Yum utility is not part of the distribution that I am using. Thanks for the help though.

Really old distribution Mandrake 6.1 I know that I need to work with a newer one but for now that is the one that I am able to work with. Thanks.
