Installation issues

hi,

First, how should my hd partition look like. /, swap, /home or /boot or what?

And I keep getting this error--- fatal: no hdlist nor synthesis to read for.

What is that. Also, I downloaded the official 3 cd pack of mandrake. And it says KDE 3.3 comes on CD 4. So I guess I don't have it or is it a package on 1 of the cds?

Thanks for all your help

Where are you looking at the partition from? Cfdisk?
When Do you get this error message? During boot?
As far as KDE, it should get installed when you install mandrake unless theres something special about KDE on Mandrake.

the error is during the installation. Actually after partition before I get to select the packages I want. What is /home /boot /usr and what is the difference?

Now I am passed that error, but after I select the packages that I want I get this error: basesystem package not selected.

Could this be a bad copy of mandrake or a badly burned cd?

You are not selecting the basesystem package during installation when you are prompted what you want to install. The basesystem is just that the base of the system

i ve got the same issue & it drives me mad !!!

i ve downloaded the 3cd pack (10.1) via linuxiso.org twice, burned it, & run the installation since.
always blocked at this step. The programm say me this error is related with cd1 or cd2 (randomizely).

I ve unplugged my scsi card & the hd connected to it, i ve tested with my two cd-rom player?

what can i do? if someone has a suggestion i ll be glad to read it

thx to have read this post & sorry for my poor english.

I downloaded the 10.1 official dvd from the mandrake.com ftp server and it installed just fine, they also have the cd iso's.
