Installation from DVD

Hiya!

I just have a slight problem...i tried to install some software packages from Mandriva installation dvd (10.2 limited edition)...using the Mandriva Control Centre...however, as the programme starts to initiate installation, my cd-rw drive opens up, and asks me to place the dvd in that cd-rom. This is slightly strange, since my cd-rw drive obviously can't read a dvd! I installed Mandriva from my DVD drive, and everything worked fine, so it is slightly strange that it now asks for the disc from the cd-rw drive? (It is also strange considering that the Control Centre asks you to put the Mandriva DVD into the dvd-drive, BEFORE it gives you the list of programmes that you can install....which i did,,,and then suddenly it decides it wants to change over to the other drive as to perform the actual installation!)

Can anybody please give me some indication as to how i can fix this??

Also, as a :newbie: (dumbie!! :-) and being used to Windows...i really miss the old .exe files for installing programmes. Isn't there any easier way to install programmes than have to go through one of these "dos" console-window thingies?? (i have no knowledge of programming, so they are a bit strange to me at the moment.) Perhaps there is a program that i can use,,,which will allow me to select the programmes i want to install, and who will ask me where i want to install it...and the rest it will do for me.(i am lazy ok!!! :-)

Also: i have lots of songs in the mp4 format.(m4a) I am having one hell of a mission to play any of them in linux. surely it is not such a strange format!?? Can linux play them, and how do i go about getting it to do so??

And my last problem is with the screen. i currently run both windows and mandriva...and i keep having to manually change the borders of my screen...for when i use mandriva and then restart into windows, the screen size is wrong...it is either too much to the left, or to the right... can somebody please tell me how i can get the screen to fit on both operating systems?

Thank you kindly for your help

You may want to disconnect the CD-RW, just for the installation. Seems like Mandriva is getting them mixed up.

Hey, thanks for replying!

Is there any other way that you know of to disconnect the cd-rom, besides pulling the cd-rom cable out?? through the bios maybe??

You could try to "disable" it in the BIOS, but that's the only other way you can do it, otherwise, get a screwdriver...
