Unhappy installation error openSUSE

I'm trying to install openSUSE 12.2 onto my virtual box. ive created the virtual environment and have followed the installation from the boot menu. however when the installation is complete a command box opens and starts running script (i assume to do with finishing the installation) but right at the end an error occurs

***Starting YaST2***
error: cant create transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/.rpm.lock (no such file or directory)

this is then followed by the virtual environment completely crashing and me having to do the installation all over again.

when setting up the virtual environment i extended the disk space to at least double the recommended and when doing the openSUSE installation i just kept clicking next except when i had to enter in login information.

If more information can help just ask and ill put it up.

Perhaps creating your virtual hard drive about 15 or 20 GB will be beneficial. when formatting the virtual hard drive during installation select ext4 as file system format.
I don't really know if Gnome or KDE are suitable for virtual environments due to their heavy weight, I have never tried them. I usually go light weight under virtual enviroments like Xfce or LXDE.

If available leave one GB for your Virtualbox RAM

12.2 is not supported any longer
in the older 12 only 12.3 is supported

for a new install i would use 13.1

for a VM you might want to use xfce
Gnome3 or kde4 really do need to be able to use your 3d card

you also might want to use a NON VM install
As in add a new drive or install to the hard drive
