Installation/Download of Mandriva 2007
 

Sir/madam
I am an engineering student having the home PC with the configuration
Intel 965 Chipset motherboard, SATA hard disk.\, 1GB RAM, unable to install mandriva 2007 in my PC as the intel manufacturer suggested me to install mandriva 2007/64bit. Please guide me step by step how and where to get mandriva 2007 download and the installation procedure.can i get FREE live DVD/live installation through broadband internet connection.I thinking to migrate from my windows OS to linux OS. please guide me in this regard sir

The intel 965 chipset gave linux distros problems when it first came out, including mandriva 2007. The main problem encountered was that intel stopped making an ide controller chip for this chipset and used the marvell ide controller chip instead. The linux kernel did not have support for the marvell chip when it first came out so you could never get an installation to go; as soon as the linux kernel loaded it would lose the cd/dvd drive on the ide port and abort.

Mandriva 2008 has a newer kernel and fully supports the intel 965 chipset. I have mandriva 2008 installed on my intel 965 box at home and it installs and runs fine.

I am unable to get the download Mandriva 2007 by the link provided by you. I had even joined in Mandriva club. i am getting different strange characters and symbols when i try to download. please tell me step by step procedure to get free Mandriva 2007

Please reread my original post - you need to download Mandriva 2008, not Mandriva 2007. Mandriva 2007 will not install on an intel 965 motherboard. The link I gave you is for Mandriva 2008.
