installation booting

I just downloaded the mandrake 8.2 iso and burned a cd, but for some reason it just won't boot from that cd. I checked the files list to see that i didn't accidently just burn the iso, but all the files were there. I also made sure there are no prolems with my dvd-rom (LG) by trying to boot from my windows cd and it worked. I'm using Windows XP Pro right now.

System:
512 MB DDR RAM
2.533 GHz P4
Motherboard: ABIT IT7E
Graphics accelerator: MSI G4 Ti4200 128MB
OS: Windows XP Pro
Hard drive: Maxtor Diamond plus, 3 partitions.
C: 22.3 GB NTFS (with windows xp)
D: 82.3 GB NTFS
E: 9.75 GB FAT32 (empty)
I also downloaded the iso from another server to see that that wasn't the problem, but the same thing happened.

that's exactly what i did. I have experience with iso-s from before so i know how they work (read the 2nd sentence in my original posting again).
It is set to boot from a cd. I'm not a newbie to computers, only to Linux.

I could add that i built my computer myself. I have never had any hardware problems or anything, but maybe it has something to do with that.
