Question Installation


hello

Actually I am planning to install linux in to my Home pc.
I got a "Mandrake Linux".
While install in a normal mode in few moments my computer got hangup. Then I went the the help mode all I tried all the option. All the option in the help mode shows the following error.

Presently I am using the Microsoft Windows 7

DVD/CD Romes drive: HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM GH22NS50ATA Device
IDE ATA/ATAT Controller
: ATA Channel0
: ATA Channel1
: Intel(R)N10/ICH7 family serial ATA storage
controller27CO
Keyboard : HID Keyboard device
Mice : HID compliant mouse
Monitor : Generic PnP monitor
Network adapter : REaltek RTL 8139/810x family ethernet NIC
Port :Comumminication port -com1
communication port - com2
ECP port(LPT)
Processor : Pentium(R)dual core CPU E5500@2.80Ghz
Pentium(R)dual core CPU E5500@2.80Ghz

Ram: 2 GB
Hard disk capacity : Partition B : 6.34GB
Partition C : 48.7 GB (Windows 7 OS)
Partition D : 48.8 GB
Partition E : 48.8 GB
Partition F : 48.8 GB
Partition G : 34.1 GB
Partition H K 49.8 GB
Un Partition portion (freespace - 180.11 GB

Kindly help how install the Linux in to my system

Your best option is to use a CURRENT version of Linux...Mandrake is very, VERY old, and it's not surprising you're having problems with it. Since you're using Windows 7, download the latest version of Linux Mint, and try that. Chances are you'll have better luck.

Also, you need to read the LQ rules..don't post the same question multiple times. Thread reported.

Why on earth pick Mandrake (I guess you mean Mandriva, yes)? The company has been liquidated. Why not try something else like Linuxmint or Ubuntu. You can download an iso image from each website and try them for yourself. There are many other choices. Just visit the Distrowatch website for a full list. You will also find full instructions on the websites for installing the distro you want to try out.
