Yeah, I looked at the page and saw that vlc isn't there. But, it looks like mplayer is. Have you tried that? "apt-get install mplayer".

Hold on a second. I see "synaptic" in there. Is there something in your instructions about installing packages? There should be a button on on your desktop to get you to administration and then to synaptic package manager. From there, you can scroll through the packages available or do a "CTL-F" search for whatever you want.

I can keep trying to help you, but it's almost the blind leading the blind. What you really need is an "eepc users group" or something like that where people have already traveled down this path.

Some more info for vlc and the eeepc is here. These instructions look a lot more reasonable. It looks like a forum you ought to look at more closely, as well.

vlc installed but plug in issue

thanks for the post to the eee pc forum. I was able to install vlc and play a wmv file. I am still getting a message "additional plug ins required to display all media on this page" from the website I need to use with vlc. Not sure what else to do at this point.

Normally there is a button to click to download the plugins. They won't work for Linux, but at least you can figure out which ones you need and download them from eeepc.

You might try this using the sources.list on the eeepc page. This assumes you're using firefox or iceweasel, i.e. a mozilla browser. If you use some other browser, then I dunno.

# apt-get update
# apt-get install mozilla-plugin-vlc
