If you used an .rpm file that isn't for your distro it might not update the rpm's database. Your system would not show it as installed in this case, but it still would be installed and usable.

Second part: you can do:

which gcc

etc

and find out what version of all those missing packages you have. Usually if you have an older version it won't work. But, if you have a newer version it should work. You can also compile from source:

source.tar.gz

instead of an rpm.

rpm is rpm. The rpm might not work as expected, but the database is definitely up-to-date if install went well.
However, there is no obligation that the rpm filename reflects the package name, especially where character case is concerned. So for a start, you may want to grep in case-unsensitive mode:
Code:
rpm -qa | grep -i name
Please tell us the filename of the rpm file, so we may have more ideas.

Yves.

Dear all,

the package name is :
Package gcc-3.2.3-20
Package compat-gcc-7.3-2.96.122
Package compat-gcc-c++-7.3-2.96.122
Package compat-libstdc++-7.3-2.96.122
Package compat-libstdc++-devel-7.3-2.96.122
Package openmotif21-2.1.30
compat-libstdc++-devel-7.3-2.96.122
Package compat-glibc-7.x-2.2.4.32.5
openmotif-2.1.30

all this package i install already can also show successful install. but even i using the command to check it up, it haven't show the particular package.

thanks,

venil
