install the GRUB boot loader on a hard disk


i`m running win7 and i want to have debian alongside with it but while installing does not recognize the windows it shows The following other operating systems have been detected on this computer:Windows Vista(loader) ( i don`t have vista) i`ve tried once to install the GRUB on the master boot record but then i can`t boot in windows™ then i reinstall my win. can someone help with any solution - installing debian from usb flash downloaded from the official site my partitions are

> #1 primary 26.8GB B ntfs
> #2 primary 34.5GB ntfs
> #5 logical 20.1GB B ext3
> #6 logical 903.9MB F swap
> #3 primary 76.5GB ntfs

scsi5(o.o.o)(sdb)-8,1 Gb jetFlash Transcend 8GB
> #1 primary 1.2GB B fat16
> pri/log 6.9GB free space

ok firstly next time....don't re-install windows boot the windows dvd and choose the rescue option.

ok now I don't own any of them but I think Linux regards them as a family because it has detected ntfs partitons
google "boot manager windows 7 same as vista" top hit says they are the same boot manager


2) now did you use a partition tool on your hard drive?

the order looks funny?

1 2 5 6 3 ignoring that you did not post the extended partition number

3) Did you follow some guide to put linux on a flash drive using format fat16?

I would never recommend fat16 to anyone including microsoft ppl
