Unhappy Install skype on acer one. Asks for root password. don't know where to get this

Cor linux eh? Phew thought vista was tough.
I'trying to install skype on an ACER ONE for my mum so she can speak to my brother to see his new baby on a daily basis.
I've downloaded skype but it then asks me for a root password.
Where do I find this. Is there a step by step guide to install skype. It seems to be a common problem with this type of netbook when put in the hands of windows slaves such as myself. I'm not totally daft when it comes to installing software etc but I am stumped. Please help, just to get my mum off my back.

LOL, nobody deserves to be punished like that Here's what you need to do:

Please focus while doing the following.

Open the terminal window by right clicking on the desktop and select System--> Terminal

Type sudo –su at the command prompt and hit Enter.

Type passwd and hit enter

Enter a new root password (your password cannot be a dictionary word, a combination of letters and numbers) press enter.

Retype your password.

Your new password is set.

This is the password to use when installing applications or adminstering your Acer.
