install problems... cdrom mounting
hey im trying to install debian here but ran into a roadblock...
During installation, while debian is trying to mount the cdrom, I get an error saying that it couldn't be mounted, most likely because the cd wasn't inserted. Well the CD is in there and it works. I burned it twice and the second time on extra slow. I tried a knoppix liveCD and can only get things to start going when i put in the cheat codes "knoppix nodma" or "failsafe". I guess hardware detection is messing up somehow. When the installation fails, I go to the "execute a shell" option and tried a few things. /etc/fstab shows pretty much no information except that if find /dev/floppy0. The rest is jsut "none" With dmesg, Things start out fien and the CDROM is deteced I guess. It says hdd: SAMSUNG SCR-2432 and some of the info which is all correct. However, it gets "command error" a few lines later. The error is like this: status=0x51 {Drive SeekComplete Error} error=0x50 end_request: I/0 error, dev 16:40 (hdd) ISOFS: unable to read i-node block ISOFS: changing to secondary root. It says that once, and then again, but at the end adds "ISO 9660 Extensions = Microsoft Joilet level 3" Then it repeats the process once more. I don't really have any idea but I'm assuming this isn't good. Can anybody comment? thank you. |
I have seen such errors when the media was not o.k. (scratched or a faulty burn).
I'd burn another cd and check it for integrity before using it. |
Is it Sarge? Did you try typing in linux26 at the boot prompt? Maybe a newer kernel will help? Or if you did linux26, did you try the default 2.4 kernel?
