YOU havent described existing os

BY the way check the cd i.e allow cd scanning
then again error comes, change the cd .fedora 7 is most stable n fedora 9 has classic 3d desktop ,worth to install n use.

Beside,
My Operating system is Windows XP Professional.
I have
160 GB HDD
2 GB RAM

I mean is your hard disk SATA or IDE .
Whatever Fedora 9 will work on both of them.
Please give details about your partitions you created on hard disk.

Also try another installation cd of fedora . It might be installation media error.

Go to fedoraproject.org and Download. You need to write it to DVD using Nero or something like that *using the raw option*. In this option you will have .ISO in the drop down list. DONT write the ISO file to disc eg. by dropping the ISO file into the stuff-to-be-written window, you will waste the disc.

if you do not have much experience fedora / linux i would not install fedora 9 ( the first update will fix most things )
some hardware may fail to work ( network mostly )
i would burn fedora 8 dvd and install it . Then with some exp. under your belt ( 6 mo. ) install 9
but then again you might not have a single problem with 9

for emergency's i use InfraRecorder cd/dvd recorder on win xp
http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/
it is easy to use ( cygwin1.dll included)
