Install PC-BSD after Linux, on first of two drives
I've read a bit about this, but most howto's refer to installing on the PC-BSD with Linux on the same drive.
I have two SATA drives, and Slackware Linux is on my 2nd drive (sdb), and the first drive (sda) is currently empty. I'd like to install PC-BSD to the first drive.
Currently, I use Lilo, and it is installed in the Master Boot Record of sda - and I got a warning about this when reconfiguring Lilo in slackware... something about the bootloader being on a different drive.
I had installed PC-BSD once already to sda, and I don't recall seeing any boot options during install. But I was given a text menu after the install - F1) PC-BSD, F5) Linux. After pressing F5 for Linux (Slackware on sdb), nothing happens... the cursor just blinks.
Am I correct in thinking that I should re-configure Lilo in the root of sdb instead of the MBR - and then PC-BSD's bootloader will work? I'm not sure if sdb's root is bootable - how can I check this and set it bootable if it isn't already?
Many thanks in advance!
The option to install the boot loader is on the partition page
here is an older version but it,s still on that page.
I cant help with lilo or bsd bootloader as I use grub2
I found the latest version you have to select customize on the disc selection page
If anyone else reads this thread, should slackware still boot up if I don't install PCBSD's boot loader to the MBR? ... makes sense that it would, and that the same LILO menu options should be there. So I should just have to go into Slackware on the 2nd disk and figure out how to get LILO to boot PCBSD on the 1st drive... or replace LILO with GRUB, GAG or whatever from within Slackware on the 2nd disk.
I had to chainload bsd with grub Hope this helps.
