Guess all I can do is point you to this Fedora 8 guide and maybe remind that you can just use yum install <package_name>. I've never used system-config-packages, if I ever use a GUI frontend to yum/rpm, it's yumex. Install that via:
Code:
su -c 'yum install yumex' |
I used yumex a lot. It's really good.

Another good command to know is 'yum provides whatever'
whatever can be any word relating to what you want to install for example yum provides *vpn* will return anything with vpn in it or yum provides Citrix* will return anything starting with Citrix... |
Add/Remove programs in Fedora 8
Hi guys,
Can anyone tell me why there are packages marked for removal every time I open add/remove programs? If I want to install something I have to manually unmark these dang things every time. Well it's not actually marked in a check mark box, but rather there is an icon off to the left side of the check mark box. This icon has a red line through it and it does not allow me to unmark it so I have to mark the check box for installation in order to remove the removal icon. It's kind of a pain since I have to go through and find each one and unmark them, which is a lengthy process. There has got to be a way around this. Any advice would be appreciated. |
