Install of RedHat 4ES PIII 550 failed

I'm a newbie to the Linux world.

I installed RedHat 4ES on my PIII 550 last night,
it failed about 70% of the way through.
I rebooted, and it just freezes.

So I put Disk1 back into CDROM, and rebooted again, and still freezes,
and spins the CDROM endlessly.

How can I get back on track?

Post your hardwareconfiguration inhere...It sounds like a hardware or maybe BIOS related problem.

It's a Pentium III 550, 512mb SDRAM, a SAMSUNG 80gb hard drive as d:, and 10gb Western Dig hard drive as c: (Windows2000), and 40x CD-ROM.

I changed the boot order to be CD-ROM, then SAMSUNG 80gb.

What about soundcard, graphiccard and networkadapter? With some devices there are known problems.

Does it always stop at 70% or is it random?

How is your drive(s) partitioned?

Actually, I'll have to reply on the Graphics video and sound card later, because I'm not home right now.

The 80gb Samsung is not partitioned.

Also, this is my first install.

When I rebooted after it hung at 70%, the screen freezes, and CD-ROM just spins on Disk1.
Maybe I need to wipe out whats on the 80gb drive first. What do you think?
Assuming this is right course, how do I wipe this?

I think that you should use fdisk or cfdisk to partition your harddrive before installation. I recommend cfdisk for a start. It's easy to use.

Also remember to format your master boot record. Using fdisk /mbr command.

After that you can be sure that there are no fragments left on your system.
