install ns-allinone-2.34 on ubuntu 8.04

Hi, iam a new member

I have problem when I was installing ns-allinone-2.34 on ubuntu version 8.04.

I typed this :
~/ns2/ns-allinone-2.34$ ./install
then this error showed up:
checking whether the C compiler (gcc) works ..no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables.
tcl8.4.18 configuration failed! Exiting ..
TCL is not part of the ns project. Please see www.Scriptics.com
to see if they have a fix for your platform.

Hope you guys can help me

Welcome to the forums,

First you need to tell us what distribution of linux you are running and what user you are trying to install as.

But from what your error says it seems you do not have gcc installed...or its not in the path.

Welcome to LQ.

Ubuntu 8.04 :
Please do this command in a terminal window :

sudo apt-get install build-essential \
libx11-dev libxmu-dev libxmu-headers libxt-dev

... which will install all packages for ns2,
if I remember right.
