I have been looking all over my book for the answer to the above question. How do I install ncompress at the command line?

it looks like there is a package for several distros and you can download and make it yourself

Welcome to LQ.

@pan64 is right : There is actually an "ncompress" package for all Linux OS.
Slackware : ncompress is included in a full OS install.
All other OS : Please read the "Package install Documentation" to know :
http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=all
# yum install ncompress
# apt-get install ncompress
$ sudo apt-get install ncompress

NCOMPRESS rpm

Thanks for the answers to my question. I suppose I should have been more specific. I am currently studying Linux through the VMWare program. I need to know how to download it into my VMware Player. I downloaded it to my computer but I can't get it over to my VMware Player.

Much appreciation for the answer to this question.

Thanks,

Victor
