I use Acronis TrueImage to create whole-disk backups that are quick and easy to create and restore. I've tried using the open-source alternatives and they don't even come close to the ease of use of TrueImage. (Sorry if that sounds like an advertisement - it isn't, and Acronis can be a frustrating bunch to deal with, for example their glacial slowness in updating their software to support the EXT4 file system - and they'll probably restrict it to the next version that customers will have to pay to upgrade to). The best alternative I've found is remastersys, which actually has some advantages over TrueImage (such as creating a Live DVD with installer) but I'd like to keep using TrueImage as well because it retains all the driver installations whereas remastersys doesn't.
As it turns out, this is now a moot point because I have ditched the KDE version of Mint 9 (
