Install Mandriva on HD partition, boot from CD/USB
Hallo, I am a complete newbie to Linux.
I have a corporate laptop with Win XP on C: and a free D: partition.
I was thinking about formatting the second partition and install Mandriva Linux 2006, or a similar distribution.
The question is... Since the pc is not mine (I don't even have an user with admin rights in XP) I don't wand to mess with the original installation in any way. So I don't want to change the mbr of the HD or have a startup menu asking me which OS to boot.
I'd like to boot Linux only from a CD or USB drive; only the boot loader for Linux would be there, the OS itself would be installed on the HD partition for performance & writable disk space.
Is there a decently easy way to do this?
Thanks a lot in advance.
