install mandrake blank hd cd won't boot

I am attempting to install mandrake 9.2 on a freshly formatted hd. I have the bios set to run from the cd, but it doesn't boot. my copy of mandrake on 3 cd was burned from 3 .iso files. Did I make a mistake when I made the copies?

It's possible...Try the cds in another machine (just read them, don't boot from them). If there's one big file on each cd, it's wrong. There should be files and directories.

When you burn something, the program usually first generates an image and then burns it to the cd. Mandrake cds come in this 'image' form and if you allow your buring program to make an image of an image you won't get what was expected. The method to tell the program what you want is different in different programs. Usually there's an option like 'Burn from image'.

Unhappy install mandrake blank hd cd won't boot

I put the main hd back in, set the new one as a slave, ran fdisk, formatted it with ntfs, xp launches, I can browse to mandrake 9.2 cd 1, lots of files and folders. In fact, if I put the cd in the drive, it autoruns and brings up a dialog box with install as one of the options. I select install, it notes an immediate reboot is necessary, after which mandrake is supposed to install, but after the reboot, the cd light blinks fast for about a minute, then slow and steady blinks continue as xp launches. if I open the drive and remove the mandrake cd, the cd drawer won't close, and the cd drive is not even visible in windows explorer...shut down and restart, the cd drive is back, but no hint of mandrake.

My 9.2 did this.

Try going to a Windows machine, put in the CD and use the option to boot form Floppy. When it asks for an image to use, browse to the CD:\images\cdrom.img and click Write.

Then boot the system from the floppy diskette. The disk will find the CD.
