Install LinuxMint on Aspire One D250 from OpenSuse
Hi,
i have opensuse 11.2 installed in my AOD250, i want to install linuxmint 8 in a free partition, and dual boot the two linux. can i do that ? |
Welcome to LQ elaich!
Of course you can If you dont wanna use cd or usb you can also boot mint 8 from the opensuse partition do you have mint 8 on cd or usb already? |
Hi linus72,
yes i have it on usb stick . |
OK
then you should easily be able to install it from usb If you wanna stick with your current opensuse grub setup tell mint during install not to install grub to mbr but to partition if you want mint will auto recognize opensuse and you will have boot menu by mint its your choice really |
ok .. i want to keep suse grub in mbr, after installing mint how can i boot to it from the suse grub menu ?
|
if suse has grub2 just run "update-grub" as root
sudo update-grub make sure when you get to installer screen you choose manual partitioing and when you get to screen where it wants to install grub look for an advanced button and tell it to install grub to partition sdxx not sdx where sdx is sda, sdxx is sda1 see this too http://www.howtoforge.com/the-perfec...-mint-8-helena dig? |
this is the pic with grub install
sse the advanced button? http://images.howtoforge.com/images/...lena/big/9.jpg and this one, choose manual partitioning and tell mint to install to / of whatever partition http://images.howtoforge.com/images/...lena/big/7.jpg |
Sorry for being late.
Suse don't have grub 2, and linuxmint on usb didn't make it, it hangs when i boot. you told me i can install it from my suse partition, how can i do that ? |
it would actually be preferable to boot Mint from a live_cd, if you still have the .ISO
then, in the install, point Mint to the vacant partition for its / & install its grub2 into the Mint partition. you will have to manually update the suse grub-legacy file. |
I have an EEE pc (Aspire One) !!
there is no way to boot from a live cd !! |
How are you putting the ISO on the thumb drive?
