I'm sorry I don't have a solution for you. The message you are reporting doesn't make much sense, if you're using a CD for installing. I'm sure you have thought of that already. Have you tried just hitting ENTER when you get that message? A few times, I've seen a message like that will come up to give you a chance to use a different driver, and sometimes it is not obvious that is what they are doing.
Is this an installation to a bare hard drive, or is there data on the drive? I wonder if something there is interfering. If what is on the drive is not important or if it can be backed up to something, you might try deleting the partitions on the drive (FDISK or QTParted or GParted) and let the install make the partitions so nothing on the drive can interfere.
