install java on ubuntu


hi..
im new to linux. i want to know how to install java inside ubuntu12.10.. and the link to download java for ubuntu12.10 and the installation procedure.please help me

Hi and welcome to LQ.
Searching is a good way of finding something. Try this:

You'll need to decide if you want openjdk or the Oracle version.

sorry I couldn't resist that. It's not easy being named after a piece of software.

Hi.

There are several editions of Java available. OpenJDK being one of them. For best results, I suggest you install the official release from Oracle. There are subtle differences between OpenJDK and the Oracle release and not all software will function as intended on OpenJDK.
