First things first.... I notice that the "iso" you are referring to is a 64 bit image. Is your laptop 32 bit or 64 bit? And a bigger question, what is the actual error you are getting?

ASUS seems to know nothing about this notebook, at least I can't find it on their website. So it would actually help if you show us the output of lspci and lsusb.

lspci list all devices that has driver or not.You have to find the soundcard chip and than search for chip firmware or driver.Be carefull while examining lspci output

That is definitely a 64 bit processor --> http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentiu...e%20P6100.html

I would download Ubuntu64 and burn it onto a DVD. Boot from the DVD to install the operating system. There is no reason that machine shouldn't run/install Ubuntu from a Live disk.
